Overview

201 stainless steel pipe has a clear cost advantage and relatively high strength. As a low-nickel, high-manganese stainless steel, it lets buyers control material cost while keeping the bright, clean look of stainless across visible structures and trim.

It is suitable for indoor decoration, furniture, handrails, general structures, low-corrosion mechanical parts and non-critical applications where cost control is important. For these uses, 201 delivers a practical balance of appearance, strength and price.

Because its corrosion resistance and weld stability are lower than 304 and 316, 201 should be specified for the right environment. We are happy to review your application and confirm whether 201 is the appropriate grade before you order.

Specifications

Pipe specifications

Reference ranges — final spec is confirmed from your RFQ.

Outside diameter / OD
Common purchasing range: Φ6mm-325mm; small and medium diameters are common for decorative and structural use, and can be customized by OD and thickness.
Wall thickness / WT
Common purchasing range: 0.3mm-10mm; thin-wall tubes are common for light structures and decoration, while pressure or corrosive service should be evaluated carefully.
Length
6m is standard; 3m, 4m, 6m, fixed-length cutting or packing based on transport requirements can be discussed.
Surface finish
BA, 2B, brushed, polished, mirror finish. Bright, brushed or polished finishes are common for decoration, furniture and structural parts.
Manufacturing process
Welded stainless steel tube is more common; seamless, cold rolled, polished or brushed supply may be discussed based on availability.
Common standards
Often discussed under GB/T 12771, ASTM A554, ASTM A778, enterprise standards or customer drawings; confirm whether the actual grade meets the target standard.
Industry use
Indoor decoration, furniture, handrails, general structures and low-corrosion mechanical parts. Not recommended for strong corrosion or critical food-contact pipelines.
Customization
OD, wall thickness, length, surface finish and packing can be customized. Material certificate and service environment should be clearly confirmed.
Why 201

What 201 does well.

Common questions

201 FAQ

Is 201 stainless steel any good?

For the right job, yes — it is low-nickel, high-manganese, economical and relatively strong, suited to indoor decoration, furniture, handrails and general structures.

When should I not use 201?

Avoid humid, acidic, alkaline, salt-spray, food-contact or pressure service; its corrosion resistance is lower than 304 and 316. Choose 304 or 316 in those conditions.

What sizes and finishes does 201 come in?

Common OD Φ6–325 mm and wall 0.3–10 mm, in BA, 2B, brushed, polished and mirror finishes; bright and polished finishes are common for decorative work.
